Board Meeting Minutes – 137/365

9/20/20

Fall is in the freakin’ air this morning! Temps in the 40’s and after walking Maggie I went to the New Britain park. I wanted to carve the bowl, and also practice some ollies I guess.

With regard to the ollies… if you don’t use it, you lose it was the name of the game this morning. It took me a number of tries to get close to back in the swing of things. I was able to do some solid ones standing, but rolling was a lost cause.

I did about 20, and then treated myself to some bowl carves. Something amazing happened, the best thing, made my day.

There was a kid there with his dad. Maybe 10 or 11 years old. After I had done a few loops in the bowl, he approached me and asked… “excuse me, how do you carve so good?”

Talk about an ego boost!!!

I got some serious enjoyment out of sharing with him what I’ve learned so far about riding bowls. Positioning your body, pumping the pockets like a sideways quarter pipe, and keeping your trucks loose.

Made me so happy. It’s also funny how life has a way of deflating the ego too. After that encounter, with my confidence high, I took a few spills in the bowl. The concrete there to remind me that I’m not as good as I think.

Either way, it was great to get out and enjoy this beautiful September morning. The skies have cleared up of smoke and the sun was shining. I’m also happy to report that I was able to skate the bowl with little to no back pain. Might be able to catch some Teddy swell tomorrow/tuesday if I can get out of bed for another early morning drive!

September Rolling Ollies: 264… why am I even still counting?
